A BUSINESSMAN ILLEGALLY PRINTING BOOKS ABOUT HARRY POTTER IS OBLIGHED TO PAY COMPENSATION OF 220K EURO | TKM - International Consulting
February 20, 2024

An entrepreneur from Kurgan city, Russia, has been found guilty of illegal printing and selling counterfeit books about Harry Potter that won the hearts of millions of people around the world.

For 2.5 years, the violator has produced more than 43K copies of books, for which he was sentenced to two years of suspended imprisonment and the obligation to damage compensation in the amount of more than 22 M rubles (220K EURO) for lack of permission to print and distribute books, as well as for copyright infringement. The court decision has not yet entered into force.

Unfortunately, offenders forge not only clothes and alcohol, as is commonly believed. The desire to make money from the illegal use of other people's copyrights gives violators huge opportunities, which ultimately affects consumers.

How to distinguish an original book from a fake?

✔ First, you should pay attention to the appearance, in particular the print quality, so that the font, logo and other graphic elements match the original.

✔ Secondly, there should be no spelling and punctuation errors on the covers, on the binding, in the text of the work itself. Usually in the original books, the condition of the binding, the brightness of the colors on the cover and the density of the paper do not raise doubts about authenticity.

✔ And, of course, you should not trust offers with a very low price, even under the pretext of a sale, what is very often presented on marketplaces.

Our experts recommend checking the authenticity of the product before buying books, especially expensive ones which are often obtained as a gift.

You can write to us, and our staff will promptly check the information on the product you are interested in, and if necessary, we will contact the copyright holder to confirm authenticity. It is necessary to realize that buying low-quality products can lead to disappointment, lost money and sometimes cause health problems. Moreover the authors and publishers can lose the trust of the readers who faced the fake low-quality copy. We fight for copyright protection by allowing the rights holders to receive large monetary compensation for the illegal use of their intellectual property objects and call on fraudsters to responsibility for damage caused to authors and publishers.
